Energy recovery from municipal waste represents a process of producing electrical and thermal energy through thermal treatment of waste. The facility converts household waste into energy in the form of steam, electrical energy, or hot water.

Energy recovery and recycling are complementary waste treatment methods that contribute to reducing the amount of waste in landfills. Incineration is a sanitary treatment method that reduces waste volume by approximately 90%.

The facilities reduce methane emissions (a greenhouse gas that has 25 times greater impact than carbon dioxide) and replace energy production from fossil fuels.

The production of electrical and thermal energy in this facility supplies households in Belgrade with energy from a renewable source.
